The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has announced the arrest of a suspect who attempted to steal a dog. Around 12:08 a.m. on January 23, 2024, deputies responded to a call for service in the 13000 block of Avenal Street in Victorville in reference to a male waving a pistol on the property and attempting to steal a dog.

At the scene, deputies located the suspect who was later identified as 26-year-old Maxwell Nelson. According to SBSD, the suspect attempted to take a dog belonging to the resident of the home. When the owner confronted Nelson, the suspect allegedly refused to give the dog back and pointed a gun at the owner during a verbal dispute.

Nelson has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is being held at the High Desert Detention Center on $140,000 bail.
