Camden County Prosecutor’s Office released a statement on December 5, 2023, announcing the arrest of a 23-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting in Camden City. Xavier Rivera of Camden City was arrested on a first-degree murder charge.

Camden County Police responded to a Shot Spotter alert before 5:00 p.m. on October 18, 2023, in the 2700 block of Hayes Avenue. Responding officers found a male suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of 22^nd Street and River Road.

The male victim succumbed to his injuries at around 7:15 p.m. at Cooper University Hospital.

Investigators identified the victim as 18-year-old Jesus Manuel Ortiz-Hernandez of Camden City, New Jersey.

U.S. Marshals Service, New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Xavier Rivera in Winter Haven, Florida on November 30, 2023. Rivera will be extradited to New Jersey at a later date.
