21-year-old pre-med student at University of Florida accused of stabbing his mom to death

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a 21-year-old pre-med student for allegedly stabbing his mother to death. According to Sheriff Grady Judd, the incident happened in Frostproof around 2 p.m. on the afternoon of April 6, 2024. 21-year-old Emmanuel Espinoza is a pre-med student at the University of Florida.

Emmanuel is accused of driving to his mother’s house in Polk County and stabbing her to death. Following the fatal stabbing, Emmanuel Espinoza allegedly called 911 and confessed before being taken into custody. PCSO says the victim, 46-year-old Elvia Espinoza, was a second grade teacher at Ben Hill Griffin Elementary School.

Emmanuel will be charged with first-degree murder.
