20-year-old man injured in shooting in Rainier Beach neighborhood of Seattle

A 20-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the Rainier Beach neighborhood of Seattle on Tuesday. The Seattle Police Department reports it is investigating a shooting that occurred just before midnight on Tuesday.

Around 11:40 p.m. on May 14, 2024, officers responded to multiple calls about shots fired and a vehicle fleeing the scene near the 9400 block of Rainier Avenue South. At the scene, responding officers found multiple shell casings. Businesses in the area sustained damage after being struck by gunfire.

The suspect or suspects were not located. Police also responded to the 200 block of Rainier Avenue South in Renton where they found a victim. SPD says a 20-year-old male victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and a graze wound to the head.

The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. SPD says an involved party that was with the victim was arrested for driving under the influence. The arrested individual was in possession of a handgun.

His vehicle was damaged by gunfire and was taken to the vehicle processing room. Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives responded to take over the investigation.
