A 14-year-old is dead after being hit by a vehicle while running from police. The Pearland Police Department reports that an officer was pursuing a vehicle in the 14000 block of State Highway 288 Northbound around 9:50 p.m. on August 28, 2024.
The driver, a 14-year-old male, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the center concrete barrier. Following the crash, the 14-year-old fled on foot heading westbound across the main lanes of State Highway 288.
The officer lost sight of the suspect. Around five minutes later, PPD dispatch received reports of a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the southbound lanes of State Highway 288. At the scene, officers found that the individual who fled from the earlier crash had been struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the southbound lanes.
The male was transported to Ben Taub Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
