The Birmingham Police Department is on the scene of a shooting. Around 6:10 p.m., East Precinct Officers responded to a juvenile shot call at East Lake Park in the 8100 block of 4th Avenue North.
At the scene, responding BPD officers located a 10-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire & Rescue transported the victim to Children’s Hospital. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on the preliminary investigation, BPD believes the victim was walking in the park with his mother when he felt pain in his arm. The mother quickly realized her son had been shot. The victim and his mother fled to a nearby football field where parents immediately rendered aid.
No one is in custody at this time. BPD is working to learn where the shooting took place. No other information is available at this time.
