Wilmington, North Carolina – The Wilmington Police Department said in a social media statement that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident on Saturday afternoon.
According to WPD, units responded to a fight in process at a parking lot at 7th and Nixon Street around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
As officers attempted to disperse the crowd, a man allegedly pulled out a gun and began shooting near people.
WPD says officers gave verbal commands to the suspect who refused to put down the weapon and continued firing shots.
Officers discharged their firearms at the suspect to try to stop him from harming others. Police say the suspect dropped his weapon and surrendered.
No one was injured during the incident. The suspect was transported to WPD Headquarters. No other details are available at this time.
