According to a social media post from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 13600 block of Shannon Drive on November 19 around 5:46 PM for a shots fired complaint. The 911 caller said she heard arguing followed by the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers found 47-year-old Michael L. Huff and 38-year-old Jacquelyn Huff on the kitchen floor covered in blood. Authorities say they had been shot and showed no signs of life.
They were pronounced deceased at the scene. Police say they found a small caliber handgun in close proximity to both individuals. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators concluded that the isolated incident was the result of a murder-suicide. A forensic pathologist conducted the autopsies today and concluded that Jacquelyn Huff had been shot three times in the head by her husband Michael Huff.
Michael reportedly died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Two children, aged 6 and 18, were at home at the time of the shooting. Neither child witnessed the incident although the 18-year-old heard the incident and was the 911 caller. Since 2016, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said it had responded to the Huff residence on three other occasions prior to this incident. The first call in May 2020 was to conduct a welfare check when the Huffs were out of town. In October 2023, Michael Huff contacted the Sheriff’s Office claiming to be a victim of battery.
Authorities determined that a physical altercation occurred between Michael and another family member who did not reside at the residence. The following day, deputies responded to the residence so Jacquelyn Huff could remove items from the home.
