On November 5, 2023 around 4:52 AM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to Cathedral Park for reports of gunfire. Officers reached the scene around 5:15 AM but were unable to locate a victim or a shooting scene. At 5:39 AM, officers were dispatched to the park once again after a passerby called 911 to report that someone had been shot. Officers reached the scene at 5:47 AM.
According to the Portland Police Department, a family member went looking for the victim and found her shot in a parking lot around North Crawford Street and North Alta Avenue. Detectives have learned that the area is a popular gathering place for groups. The family member attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.
A vehicle associated with the victim was missing from the scene. Around 7:30 AM on the same day, the vehicle was found burned in the 17000 block of NE Marine Drive. The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Tyrae Hernandez of Portland. Anyone with information about the homicide is urged to contact Det.
