Tulsa Police investigating officer-involved shooting following restaurant stabbing

Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Police Department says its officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting around 1 p.m. on January 9, 2025.

According to TPD, officers responded to the BJ’s Brewhouse on 71st Street near Woodland Hills mall for a stabbing. Police say the incident started when a 32-year-old man came into the restaurant and created a disturbance.

The suspect was allegedly yelling and threatening customers and employees at the front of the store. The General Manager spoke to the suspect and tried to convince him to leave.

TPD says the situation escalated and the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the manager. When the manager put his hands up in a defensive manner, he was stabbed in the hand.

The manager reportedly yelled for staff and patrons to get to the back of the store and rushed into the kitchen to tend to his wounds. The suspect allegedly chased others around for a period before leaving.

The patrons and staff barricaded the doors. The suspect allegedly banged on the door and tried to break in through a window.

TPD says officers arrived as the suspect fled from the BJ’s and walked toward nearby businesses and was unable to get into the back doors of the hotels. Police allege that the suspect ignored officer commands and tried to get into hotels.

Police used a Taser to stop the suspect, but the attempts were unsuccessful. TPD says one officer used his duty pistol and struck the suspect. The victim and suspect were taken to an area hospital. Both are expected to recover.
