According to a Lexington Police Department social media post, officers arrested 42-year-old Aimee Lakey on November 12, 2023, in relation to a fire on Main Street on October 28. Lakey has been charged with the burning of a church and her bond has been set at $25,000. The church is owned by Jesus Comes First Ministries.
On October 28 around 2:45 PM, the Lexington Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1700 South Main Street during the Lexington BBQ Festival. During the response, a second alarm was initiated and responders could see a large column of smoke coming from the area. Once they arrived, the crew saw smoke coming from the rear of the structure. They immediately began working to extinguish the fire.
Additional crews checked the interior to look for possible victims and to see if the fire had spread to other parts of the building. It was determined that the fire was contained to the rear porch area and no victims were in the building.
