According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, a 54-year-old Kansas City man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with the 2021 fatal shooting in Grandview. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced that Stacy T. Briscoe was sentenced to 23 years in the fatal shooting of Jason L. Stuart in Grandview.
Briscoe pleaded guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter in the 1st degree. He was convicted as a prior, persistent offender which enhanced the sentencing range up to 30 years. Court records say that Grandview police officers were dispatched to a store and parking lot regarding a shooting on May 2, 2021. Video reportedly showed the victim and defendant in an argument in the store. The victim is shown shoving the defendant before the defendant leaves and returns minutes later.
The victim and defendant walk away. Then, the video shows an encounter in which the victim falls to the ground. Detectives say Briscoe acknowledged he shot the victim and felt bad about it during an interview.
