According to a social media post from the Spokane Valley Police Department, a driver crashed into two patrol cars during a welfare check. Authorities say a deputy noticed a male slumped over in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle parked on the side of the road. When deputies contacted the driver, he woke up and put the car in gear. The driver ignored commands to stop and drove into a marked patrol car.
Then, the driver allegedly reversed his vehicle and backed into another marked patrol car. Deputies eventually entered the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was charged with Malicious Mischief 2nd Degree, DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Obstructing Law Enforcement.
The man was later identified as 35-year-old Jeffrey E. Baumann. Police estimate that Baumann caused roughly $1,500 in damage to the two patrol cars. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
