Redding Police arrest 25-year-old woman in suspect fatal DUI hit and run collision

The Redding Police Department says it has arrested a 25-year-old woman in connection to a fatal hit-and-run collision. According to RPD, its officers responded to the area of Canby Road and Pineland Drive for a vehicle-pedestrian traffic collision around 11:30 p.m. on December 9, 2024.

A witness reportedly told RPD that the involved vehicle had fled the scene. RPD says officers reached the scene and found a male pedestrian suffering from serious life-threatening injuries.

The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. RPD says the officers found the vehicle near the scene. A traffic stop a carried out. According to RPD, 25-year-old Tabitha Wilkins was driving the vehicle and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.

Police believe Wilkins initially stopped but did not remain at the scene of the crash. Wilkins was arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Death, and Hit and Run Causing Death.
