Plano, Texas – The Plano Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to the 1991 abduction and sexual assault of an 8-year-old child. According to PPD, 64-year-old Nicholas Ray Carney was arrested after being identified as a suspect in the 1991 abduction and sexual assault case.
Authorities also say Carney has been linked to a similar case in Dallas from 1999 and there could be more victims. Around 6 p.m. on August 15, 1991, two children were walking to a neighborhood pool in the 1700 block of Lake Hill Lane in Plano.
Authorities say the children were approached by a man who abducted and sexually assaulted one of them. The injured child was found five hours later in Garland, Texas.
According to PPD, a combination of traditional forensic sciences and genetic genealogy research by Bode Technology and a crime analyst for PPD connected the evidence to Carney.
Carney was arrested in Ardmore, Oklahoma and is currently being held pending bond.
