Mountain View Police announce arrest of 24-year-old East Palo Alto man in early morning shooting on Saturday

The Mountain View Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a shooting on early Saturday morning. According to MVPD, dispatchers received a call that a man had been shot and was lying on the ground in the 400 block of Sierra Vista Avenue around 2:05 a.m.

Police say officers found a 23-year-old man shot in the roadway. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. MVPD detectives say they have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Hector Christopher Chavez of East Palo Alto.

Chavez was taken into custody around 8:15 p.m. in the 2700 block of Fordham Street in East Palo Alto. Police say he will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for attempted murder.
