Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Morristown Police Chief Darnell Richardson announced the sentencing of a Morristown man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident. On October 18, 2023, Jermaine Edwards pleaded guilty to second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. On November 17, 2023, Judge Ralph E. Amirata imposed a custodial sentence of 5 years in prison and a 5-year license suspension following Edwards’ release from custody.
The sentence stems from an incident that occurred just after 9 PM on August 12, 2023 in Morristown, New Jersey. Morristown police received an alert about a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of Lafayette Avenue and Lackawanna Place. Authorities determined that a male victim had been struck by a motor vehicle that fled the scene. The victim passed away.
An investigation revealed that Jermaine Edwards had been operating the vehicle that struck the victim and fled. Edwards was charged with one count of second-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Since the time of his arrest, Edwards has been remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
