Leeds Police detain suspect in double shooting on Wednesday

Leeds, Alabama – The Leeds Police Department said in a social media statement that it has detained a suspect in connection to a double shooting. According to the statement, LPD officers responded to the 700 block of Morgan Street just before 1 p.m. on December 8.

LPD says the caller informed police that someone was shot and the suspect was still at the scene. Police say officers took the suspect into custody and found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds inside the residence.

A male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and a female victim was taken to UAB with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Authorities believe the shooting is domestic in nature. No other details are being provided by police at this time.

Update – The Leeds Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect for Capital Murder. According to LPD, Special Investigations Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Capital Murder and Attempted Murder for 40-year-old Charles Richard Bryant of Trussville.

The charges are connected to the murder of Luis Enrique Herrera Valenciana and the attempted murder of an adult female on December 18, 2024. LPD says Bryant was taken into custody without incident in the 700 block of Morgan Drive in Trussville.

Bryant is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
