Lane County Sheriff’s Office arrests Michael David Brown for lighting fires along I-5 in Goshen

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a 52-year-old man for allegedly setting fires along I-5 in Goshen. LCSO reports that its dispatch received a report of a man starting fires in the area around 1 p.m. on September 7, 2024.

Deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the scene and arrested 52-year-old Michael David Brown. LCSO alleges that Brown was actively lighting a fire on the shoulder of Franklin Boulevard when he was confronted.

Police also say that he resisted arrest. Several fire departments responded and got the fires under control before larger evacuations were required. At this time, all evacuation orders have been cleared.

Brown was booked into the Lane County Jail on five counts of Arson in the 1st Degree, five counts of Reckless Burning, five counts of Reckless Endangering, Disorderly Conduct in the 2nd Degree, and Resisting Assest.

Deputies also believe Brown had set a fire on Franklin Boulevard at Seavey Loop Road on August 26. He is charged with Arson in the 1st Degree in that case.
