Pinch, West Virginia – The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said in a media release that it is investigating a Friday night shooting in Pinch. According to KCSO, deputies responded to a shooting in the 500 block of Green Valley Drive.
KCSO says the incident happened around 7 p.m. after Metro 911 dispatchers were informed that a man had been shot in the upper torso. The Sheriff’s Office said in a media release that deputies had detained one individual who is believed to be the shooter.
The other man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates that 27-year-old Caleb Wardy was involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend.
Family members, including Wardy’s uncle and 45-year-old cousin, Dometri Prouse, allegedly arrived at the residence to de-escalate the situation. KCSO says Wardy was separated from his girlfriend but attempted to return to the home where she was located.
It is alleged that Prouse discharged a firearm striking Wardy in the upper torso. KCSO says deputies arrested Prouse on a felony charge of unlawful wounding. Additional charges are expected against Wardy for strangulation related to the domestic incident, according to authorities.
