Hoover, Alabama – The Hoover Police Department has announced charges against 31-year-old David L. Smith in connection to a shooting on Friday.
According to HPD, detectives obtained warrants for the suspect allegedly involved in a shooting at The Park at Hoover Apartments.
Around 10:54 a.m. on January 10, 2025, the Hoover 911 Center received a call about a shooting in the 1900 block of Rime Village Drive. Responding officers made contact with an adult male outside the apartment armed with a rifle.
Police say the man was taken into custody following a brief standoff. HPD says officers found an adult male victim inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
The victim was taken to UAB Hospital and is expected to recover. Detectives say the suspect and victim are acquaintances.
Detectives believe the suspect drove to the victim’s apartment, forced the door open, and shot the victim. He allegedly pointed the rifle at another resident before exiting with the weapon.
Authorities say responding officers disarmed the suspect and took him into custody. Smith has been charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Attempted Murder, and Menacing. He was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
