A homeless man has been arrested for burglary following an incident in Hicksville, New York on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 5:07 AM. According to detectives, Second Precinct police responded to a residence on West Cherry Avenue for a burglary in progress. Once they arrived, police observed the defendant 35-year-old Alberto Garcia inside the residence.
The investigation revealed that Garcia had entered the residence through an unlocked living room window before grabbing a red kitchen knife from the kitchen. Garcia then allegedly confronted a 24-year-old male victim, a 34-year-old female victim, and a 10-year-old female victim. Garcia is accused of lunging at the male victim while swinging the knife causing a laceration to his right thumb.
The victim managed to throw a blanket onto the defendant and tackle him to the ground. The victim held Garcia until police arrived. The male victim was transported to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries. There were no other reported injuries. The knife was found at the scene.
Alberto Garcia has been charged with attempted murder 2nd degree, two counts of burglary 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.
