Halifax County Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal shooting on Christmas Day

Halifax County, North Carolina – The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a Christmas Day homicide. According to HCSO, deputies responded to Carolina Rest Home Road south of Roanoke Rapids around 11:45 a.m. in reference to a domestic argument that led to shots being fired.

At the scene, deputies found one male lying on the ground with gunshot wounds and another male who had placed his weapon on the ground and was waiting for law enforcement.

HCSO alleges that the decedent began firing shots at the other individual who returned fire in self-defense and hit the decedent multiple times.

Halifax EMS pronounced the victim, 59-year-old Clarence Tyrone Majette, deceased at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time.

Authorities say two pistols and numerous shell casings were recorded at the scene.
