Tobaccoville, North Carolina – The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting following a crash in the 6700 block of Doral Drive.
According to an FCSO statement, officers responded to a shooting at the aforementioned location around 8 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
Investigators say that 21-year-old Jarit Miguel Palacios Mayren had crashed his vehicle into a culvert causing it to travel into the front yard of a residence.
18-year-old Jordan Gary Starling, who lives at the residence, reportedly heard the crash and went outside to see what had happened.
FCSO says Starling witnessed Mayren place his vehicle in reverse and begin to drive through the yard before hitting a parked vehicle in the driveway.
Authorities allege that Starling went into the residence and retrieved a firearm to protect himself and others. It is alleged that Starling observed the vehicle traveling in a forward motion.
Starling allegedly discharged the firearm in the direction of the vehicle. Mayren and the vehicle were struck. FCSO says Mayren succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office has declined to press charges against Starling.
