Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrests two following Econo Lodge shooting in Palm Coast

Bunnell, Florida – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of two men following a report of shots fired at the Econo Lodge motel in Palm Coast on December 17.

According to FCSO, its Communications Center received a call that two gunshots had been heard outside the motel on Kingswood Drive around 10:45 a.m. on December 17.

The caller and several other callers reported that a group of men were arguing when two shots were fired and that two black males had fled the area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

FCSO says it was determined that no one was injured. Deputies quickly detained two suspects at a nearby business. The Sheriff’s Office says both men were initially non-compliant but were detained without incident.

One of the men has not been charged in the incident. FCSO says he identified himself and the other male as 19-year-old James Everett. He claimed that a man who was on the second floor pointed a firearm at himself and Everett.

FCSO says the man said Everett fired two shots at the male who was wearing a ski mask. According to authorities, the surveillance video showed the argument. It allegedly shows a man on the second-floor balcony entering a room before returning with his hand concealed in his hoodie pocket.

FCSO says the video shows Everett draw a firearm and fire in the man’s direction before the man retreated into the room with a firearm in his hand. Detectives say the man was identified as 22-year-old Steven Hyatt who allegedly confirmed he was the man in the video.

Detectives say they carried out a search warrant on the room and found a firearm and ammunition. Detectives allege that Hyatt unlawfully used a firearm in a manner that constituted an act of violence against Everett and the other man.

Detectives claim Everett unlawfully fired his weapon into the building. As a result, Hyatt and Everett were arrested.

Hyatt is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Without Intent to Kill. Everett is charged with Shooting a Deadly Missile into a Building, Tampering with Evidence, and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
