The Farmington Police Department is investigating an attempted murder-suicide at the West Main Walmart. FPD reports that officers responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot of the store around 12:31 p.m. on Thursday.

Authorities believe that the 53-year-old male suspect from Shiprock intentionally targeted the 40-year-old female victim from Farmington. The victim was an employee of the store. FPD says the victim was targeted because of her prior relationship with the suspect.

The suspect allegedly entered the victim’s vehicle before shooting her and himself. The suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The victim was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

At this time, she is reportedly in stable condition. No other details are available at this time.
