According to a press release from the State Attorney of the 13th Judicial Circuit, a man who spent nearly four decades on the run for a 1984 murder has accepted responsibility for the crime. 65-year-old Donald Santini was scheduled to go on trial this month for the slaying of a single mother whose body was discovered in a Riverview ditch in June 1984. Santini evaded capture by living under a different name in Texas and California. He was also featured on American’s Most Wanted multiple times.
Santini was only discovered this year when he applied for a passport and his fingerprints matched a missing murder suspect. Santini pleaded guilty. He has been sentenced to 50 years in Florida State Prison followed by 15 years of probation as part of a plea deal with the State Attorney’s Office.
