Chicago Ridge Police say prank led to reports of shots fired inside Chicago Ridge Mall

Chicago Ridge, Illinois – The Chicago Ridge Police Department claims today’s incident at the Chicago Ridge Mall was only a prank. According to CRPD, officers responded to reports of shots fired at the mall around 7:20 p.m. on December 22, 2024.

Police say officers did not find any signs of a shooting and no injuries were reported. Witnesses reported hearing a single loud boom before seeing multiple individuals running toward the exits.

CRPD says it is believed the incident was a prank carried out by a group of individuals inside the mall. Police say there is no indication that the event involved any gunshots. CRPD is currently working to identify those responsible for the prank.
