On Thursday, November 9, 2023, New York State Police were dispatched to the Tioga Downs Casino complex in Nichols, New York to investigate a report of a structure fire. A barn housing more than 24 racehorses was on fire.
According to the report, a man entered the burning burn in an attempt to save the horses. The unidentified man was treated at Robert Packer Hospital for second-degree burns. His condition is unknown at this time.
Following an investigation, NYSP investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. An arrest warrant was obtained for a 32-year-old Pennsylvania man.
Boyd H. Fenton of Athens has been charged with third-degree burglary, criminal mischief in the second, third-degree arson, and second-degree assault.
