According to a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office news release, the armed suspect who threatened people at Viera Regional Park on November 3, 2023 has died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle during the incident. 33-year-old Devin Carroll, of Titusville, was pronounced deceased at the hospital where he had been undergoing treatment.
Authorities say the investigation has revealed that Carroll was traveling in a vehicle with a female friend when he became paranoid that people were after him. Carroll pulled a handgun. The female driver stopped the vehicle in the area of Borasco Drive in Viera and fled before hearing a gunshot. Once deputies reached the vehicle, they found that the suspect had left the scene. Police say a single spent shell casing was discovered.
While at the scene, authorities received information that a man matching the suspect’s description was at Viera Regional Park armed with a gun and threatening participants and spectators of a sporting event. Upon arrival, deputies found Carroll on the ground after he was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. Detectives say several people in the park had been directly threatened by the suspect. Carroll allegedly entered a vehicle in the parking lot in an attempt to flee but was unable to start it.
Carroll was allegedly walking toward an oncoming vehicle while pointing a firearm at the driver. The driver, who was reportedly in fear for his safety, struck Carroll. Authorities say the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative. Once the investigation is complete, authorities will forward the investigative package to the State Attorney’s Office for review.
