The Boulder Police Department says it is continuing its investigation after several college students were sickened at a fraternity party over the weekend.
BPD says the initial calls were received around 10 and 10:30 p.m. on December 7, 2024. Officers responded to the hospital and the Kappa Sigma fraternity at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue for reports of adult males who were sick and/or overdosing.
Initially, BPD said six males were transported to an area hospital or treated at the scene by medical personnel. Now, officers believe there were five males who were treated although there could be more.
One man was initially in grave condition but is now reportedly in stable condition at an area hospital. Authorities say it is believed that the males had overdosed on possibly tainted drugs or alcohol consumption based on the initial information, Narcan use, and evidence found at the scene.
Detectives believe the individuals consumed an extreme amount of alcohol and some had consumed drugs that caused them to become violently ill. Authorities do not believe fentanyl was involved. Detectives say they seized cocaine at the scene and it is currently being tested.
Detectives also say they are investigating whether the actions at the party were related to the fraternity. Detectives will be seeking the cooperation of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and its members.
