The Richland Police Department reports that it has arrested a suspect in connection to a hit-and-run collision at Lewis and Clark Elementary School.
According to RPD, officers responded to a vehicle collision at the school at 415 Jadwin Avenue around 1 a.m. on November 30, 2024. Police say the caller reported that a vehicle with multiple people had crashed into the school building and several people fled the vehicle.
RPD says the driver attempted to flee in the car but got high-centered on a large rock in the landscaping. The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers.
Police say officers found damage to the rock wall of the school with the bumper of the car still sticking in it. The 20-year-old male driver was booked into the Benton County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and committing a hit-and-run collision.
