Roswell, New Mexico – The Roswell Police Department says a Friday night shooting left one man dead and another man injured. Police believe the men shot each other during a confrontation.
RPD believes the shot that killed the one man was fired in self-defense by the surviving man who called 911 to report the incident.
RPD says officers responded to the 1500 block of North Montana Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. and encountered a 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman in front of the house which is the man’s residence.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the midsection. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
RPD says officers found 27-year-old Alvin Sedillo unresponsive inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
RPD’s Criminal Investigations Division determined that the men and the woman were hanging out at the house and drinking. Investigators believe Sedillo left the house, returned, and became aggressive.
He allegedly demanded that the other man give him his gun and demanded other items from the man and woman. Sedillo allegedly pulled a gun and shot the man.
Authorities believe the man fired back and struck Sedillo multiple times. The woman was not injured during the incident. RPD’s findings will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office which will determine whether charges will be filed.
