Baton Rouge Police searching for officer-involved shooting suspect

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – The Baton Rouge Police Department says it is searching for a suspect in connection to an officer-involved shooting on December 20, 2024. Around 11:30 p.m., Uniformed Patrol Officers reportedly attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the 5000 block of Bank Street.

According to BRPD, two patrol vehicles pursued the vehicle for a short distance when the driver of the vehicle shot at the officers multiple times.

BRPD claims the driver, Micah Wiley, exited the vehicle around the 5300 block of Hammond Street and one officer fired at him. Three other passengers, including Corey Bassett and two juveniles, were taken into custody.

BRPD says officers recovered a stolen firearm dropped by Wiley while he fled on foot. Micah Wiley is currently wanted on charges of Attempted 1st Degree Murder (Two Counts), Aggravated Flight From an Officer, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting an Officer, Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Police say Wiley was previously arrested numerous times for Motor Vehicle Thefts, Burglaries, Aggravated Burglary, and Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.
