Update – New Mexico State Police have identified the victims of the quadruple homicide in Belen. Authorities say the victims were 42-year-old Leonardo Leyva, 35-year-old Adriana Bencomo, 16-year-old Adrian Leyva, and 14-year-old Alexander Leyva.
NMSP says all victims were found deceased from gunshot wounds and a handgun was located on the kitchen table.
Original – The New Mexico State Police announced it is investigating a quadruple homicide at a residence on Camino Escondido in Belen.
According to NMSP, the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from 16-year-old Diego Leyva around 3:30 a.m. on December 14. Leyva allegedly told the dispatcher that he had killed his family.
At the scene, Diego reportedly walked out of the residence with his hands in the air and was extremely intoxicated, according to authorities. Police say Leyva was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies found four deceased individuals inside the home. The Office of the Medical Investigator is still working to identify the victims. NMSP reports that a handgun was located on the kitchen table.
Diego Leyva has been charged with four Open Counts of First-Degree Murder. He is being held at an area hospital for detox. Once he has been medically cleared, he will be booked into a juvenile detention facility.
