The Tempe Police Department reports that a suspect is dead and an officer is recovering in the hospital following an officer-involved shooting on Friday.
According to TPD, officers from the ACTION team identified a man who had an active felony warrant for drug sales around 6:30 p.m. on December 13. Police say the man was parked at a Circle K gas pump at Baseline and Rural Roads.
When ACTION team members contacted the suspect, he allegedly took off in his car before fleeing on foot. Officers chased the suspect before the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at officers.
TPD says one officer was struck in the leg and the suspect was fatally shot by officers. The officer is recovering following a successful surgery.
The deceased suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Matthew Granado.
