Birmingham Police investigating homicide at West End Walking Trail at 633 Cotton Avenue Southwest

Birmingham, Alabama – The Birmingham Police Department has announced the arrest of 24-year-old Jhontaye Cobb in connection to the fatal shooting of Randolph Taylor Jr.

According to BPD, Taylor was fatally shot at 633 Cotton Avenue Southwest on December 14, 2024. On December 15, BPD says its Crime Reduction Team and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Cobb at a residence in Fairfield, Alabama.

Cobb is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond. He is charged with Capital Murder (Robbery).

 

Original – The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating a homicide at the walking trail at 633 Cotton Avenue Southwest. According to BPD, officers responded to the scene around 12:25 p.m. for a Shot Spotter alert.

Dispatchers notified officers that a person had been shot at the West End Walking Trail at 633 Cotton Avenue Southwest. BPD says an adult male victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire & Rescue pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Authorities believe the victim was involved in a physical altercation with an adult male suspect. At some point during the altercation, the suspect shot the victim and fled on foot.

BPD says K9 officers responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. No other details are available at this time and no one is in custody.
