Houston Police jail Omar Jose Alvarado for deaths of Harris County Deputy and Daughter

The Houston Police Department reports that a suspect charged in a fatal crash at 6800 Katy Freeway has been released from an area hospital and was booked into the jail on December 2, 2024.

23-year-old Omar Jose Alvarado is charged with two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter. Alvarado was at the hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the crash.

He was released and booked into the Harris County Jail. HPD says the female victims in the case are 46-year-old Katherine Huston and 8-year-old Kacey Hutson.

Authorities say Katherine Hutson was a Harry County Precinct 5 Constable deputy who was working an extra job as traffic control for construction work at the time of the incident. Her daughter, Kacey, was a passenger in her vehicle.

Alvardo struck the vehicle from behind causing Hutson’s white Chevrolet Impala to burst into flames. The deputy and her daughter were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 25-year-old female passenger in Alvarado’s Mazda was treated at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities allege that Alvarado was impaired at the time of the crash.
