Mother arrested after 4-year-old and 2-year-old test positive for cocaine

The Kenner Police Department has announced the arrest of a mother after her two young children tested positive for cocaine.

KPD reports that it was contacted by Children’s Hospital in New Orleans on November 21. The hospital advised they were treating a four-year-old female for a fractured arm for an incident that occurred in Kenner.

Detectives say they met hospital staff who advised that the mother, 34-year-old Ashley Burguera, brought the child to the hospital explaining the child was jumping on a bed and fell off.

A short time later, the child was complaining that her arm was hurting. Authorities say a urine analysis revealed a “Preliminary Positive” result for cocaine in the young girl’s system.

DCFS responded to the hospital and learned that Buguera was at the hospital with her two-year-old son. DCFS requested a drug test for the two-year-old who also had a “Preliminary Positive” result for cocaine in his system.

DCFS immediately told Kenner Police detectives they were going to take temporary custody of the kids and that a custody hearing would be held on November 26. KPD detectives say they attempted to interview Burguera at the hospital.

Police say she was with her attorney who declined an interview. Detectives executed a search warrant at Burguera’s house where they allegedly found small bags and bottle caps with a white powdery residue which tested positive for cocaine.

Police allege the bags of cocaine residue in the residence were in areas easily accessible by the children. Burguera was arrested for Illegal Use of Controlled Dangerous Substance In The Presence of Person Under Seventeen (2 counts), Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles, Cruelty to Juveniles, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Ashley Burguera was arrested on November 26 and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Police say she was in possession of a small amount of cocaine at the time.
