Madera County Sheriff’s Office identifies suspect in officer-involved shooting on Wednesday

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting. MCSO reports that its Communications Center received a report of several hit and runs in the area of Highway 49 and State Route 41 in Oakhurst around 3:30 p.m. on November 20.

The Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle and the owner recognized it. The victim called 911 and remained on the line with dispatch to provide updates. MCSO says the suspect also rammed the victim’s car during the call.

According to authorities, deputies set up a perimeter and attempted to use spikes to disable the vehicle. However, the suspect drove off the road and fled. During a foot pursuit, authorities say the suspect shot K9 Obie with a gunshot and an exchange of gunfire occurred.

K9 Obie and the suspect were struck. The suspect, 41-year-old Allen Scott Williams of Mariposa, was taken to a Fresno hospital by helicopter. Police say he will make a full recovery.

K9 Obie was taken to an emergency vet clinic where X-rays showed his body is riddled with shotgun pellets, according to MCSO. Authorities say doctors expect the K9 to make a full recovery although he will spend the rest of his life with numerous pellets in his body.

Police confirm Williams was on probation out of Mariposa County and has several active felony warrants for his arrest. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Madera County Jail.
