The US Attorney for the District of Columbia has announced a sentence in the case of 76-year-old Eleanor Flowers. Flowers was sentenced to 24 months of probation for one count of criminal abuse of a vulnerable adult and attempted threats.
Flowers is also required to stay away from the victim. She will be prohibited from working, volunteering, or participating in any activity involving the elderly, vulnerable, cognitively disabled, or children.
Court documents explain that Flowers was employed as a Patient Sitter at Universal Medical Center in Southeast Washington. On January 4, 2021, Flowers was attempting to change the soiled clothing of a 68-year-old patient.
Flowers struck the patient repeatedly with the hospital bed’s remote control. The victim had previously suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on one side of his body and unable to speak.
Another Patient Sitter captured the assault on cellphone video. The video showed Flowers repeatedly striking the victim causing visible distress. Following the incident, Flowers was terminated from her employment.
