The Kent County Sheriff’s Office reports that it has arrested a 40-year-old Cedar Springs man who allegedly assaulted a Grand Rapids Township fire lieutenant.
According to KCSO, its deputies responded to the Grand Rapids Township Fire Department at 1836 East Beltline Avenue for a 40-year-old man who was suicidal around 4 p.m. on November 23, 2024.
Authorities say deputies were driving to the fire station when the Fire Lieutenant requested an emergency response.
KCSO says the investigation found that the lieutenant was working alone and let the man into the garage because he thought the man was there to work on the concrete.
He learned the man was suicidal, had consumed illicit drugs, and had a firearm. KCSO alleges that the man physically assaulted the lieutenant.
When KCSO deputies reached the scene, they allegedly saw the assault before arresting the suspect. KCSO says the victim sustained several injuries and received treatment at an area hospital.
The suspect was booked into the Kent County Correctional Facility.
